Perspective: the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point; particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view; true understanding of the relative importance of things; a sense of proportion.

I named this blog Perspectives, because I think it might just be what God is growing in me. Slowly but surely, giving me a correct understanding of myself, and by His sweet grace, shifting my perspective away from the slavery of self onto the beauty of Jesus. I hope to have a “true understanding of the relative importance of things”—a right perspective...to find that place of freedom. These posts will hopefully all point back to gaining a truer and better perspective.

Joy’s Abyss

Like the scorched sand by the shore,
So my heart is shriveled.
White sand. Pale. Parched.
Distanced. Desolate. Desperate.

I long to be sea bottom sand.
Saturated. Satisfied. Soaked.
The sea is a sanctuary of overflow,
Waves and tides---earth managing the excess.

Yet I choose detachment, drought.
Tides cannot reside in the dunes.
I am desiccated dunes--dreary.
Weary and wind beated.

Ocean’s waves roll over,
Crashing on my shore,
Dousing white sand with life.
It ebbs, and all I crave is MORE.

MORE blessing! MORE gifts! MORE pleasure!
Give. It. To. Me. NOW.
I gasp it in quick. But never quenched.
Un-satisfied. NOT satisfied.

Oh to be at sea’s bottom!
Soul soaked through an through,
I long for ocean’s abundance.
True beauty of the Deep Blue.

God’s graciousness swamps like a flood,
Inviting me atop waves’ heights.
To live joyfully submerged,
Tossing in the tides of delight.

Pick me up, great Wave Maker.
Carry me from this brink of bliss,
Satiate me with swells of grace,
Current deliver to joy’s abyss.
