Perspective: the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point; particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view; true understanding of the relative importance of things; a sense of proportion.

I named this blog Perspectives, because I think it might just be what God is growing in me. Slowly but surely, giving me a correct understanding of myself, and by His sweet grace, shifting my perspective away from the slavery of self onto the beauty of Jesus. I hope to have a “true understanding of the relative importance of things”—a right perspective...to find that place of freedom. These posts will hopefully all point back to gaining a truer and better perspective.

Joyful Duty

::: I wrote this while flying to Colorado this summer. I had yet to even see the sunrise over the mountain, but this is what I dreamed it would be like. And it was :::

Eyes jump open at dawn,
Here every morning like Christmas delight,
He brought the sunrise to me again!
Consistently climbing slow over mountains height.

Darkness, now pink, here comes the blood orange ball!
Poor or rich, it appears to us all.
No payment demanded,
It's free! It's mine!
Given to point to something Divine.

No peak, no force, can keep it down,
Fulfilling joyful duty day after day,
Giving life light to sun hungry ground,
Safety and warmth in which we all play.

Would we see the Rockies without its great shine?
Would brother moon cease to exist?
Who knows, it's been here since the beginning of time,
Keeping us in wonder with eyes transfixed.

We'll go about our days in rutted routine,
Till God graciously interrupts to say "goodnight!",
Sky splashed in colors no painter could dream,
As orange ball sinks slowly out of sight.

Eyes heavy need rest to see it all again,
So i'll sleep soundly until tomorrow's show,
If only I could stay awake to take the moonlight in,
For heaven's stars have just begun their glow...
